I think Smart stocks butter milk. I just didn't use it because I'm too lazy to go to the supermarket. I find it more exciting when I have to improvise a bit :)

You can always make your own buttermilk with the same results as the store bought.
Just add lemon juice OR white wine vinegar OR cream of tartar (according to your tastes - I like 1 tablespoon if using lemon juice or vinegar or 1 and a half if using cream of tartar) to 236ml (1 cup) whole milk and let it sit and curdle. Then mix well or blitz with a blender.
Yay you haz buttermilkz nao! Sexy tajm

Thank you All, for sharing. I did not know about rats' aversion to water, Carla. Thank you for such a useful tip. However, short of walking a cat on a leash (Cathy!) or walking around my neighborhood with a spray bottle of water--which I will now do--no kidding....I sacrificed taking out the garbage a long while ago--there's a convention out there in the back of our building. I have never encountered so many of them--fearless, traveling alone and at times, with BBF... Do rats dislike lights in their eyes or some such easier method that involves my carrying LESS rather than stuff for me AND critters that do freak me out as they scurry, or sometimes, leisurely stroll past me while I'm walking--usually evening or at night? Tonight is a big test. I love looking at the heavens above, but have resisted joining my neighborhood's Astronomy Club. Last night the moon was so big, clear and full and the temperature outside was so warm that I was unconsciously beckoned out of my apt., to find a sitting place from which to become entranced. I spent hours in the streets ("I NEED mangoes!") ("I must get my dry cleaning--tonight!") and then in the nearby park, in which moon-bewitched mothers and their young children continued to play (yippee!) On my stroll home, I realized the piles of garbage on the street and all the other factors (including living near a piece of the Hudson, from which whole dynasties of these creatures run uphill toward "our" people-inhabited lands each night) began to give me the creeps. The sad realization that MY dreamy, outdoor night-time free-roaming was bound for consciousness--hence, subsequent fear and loathing. HELP!! My husband doesn't enjoy evening walks, although he is eager for tonight "in the baseball fields" (right next to the water). Thank you for your attention and simple, age-old and proven scientific techniques that ward off these uninvited members of our community.
To fearless and peaceful wanderings (for humans) everywhere! With Gratitude, Barbarasf510@aol.com

It's unfortunate that Malta gets involved - physical proximity you know... Muammar al Gadaffi - the guy has been in power since 1969, when he was only 27 years old. By now he is totally convinced that, as he said yesterday: "This is my country". He (possibly only subconsciously) knows that it’s the end of the line for him and his regime, but is incapable of accepting it. As for Libya – we’ll have to wait and see. Will it go from autocracy to democracy or to theocracy? Time only will tell. But PLEASE let the West stay out of it…

I can't imagine what it feels like for these people. Lose/Lose situation. I am sincerely happy that Maltese nationals who are in Libya are managing to get back to Malta safely that is for sure.

I don't think anyone is comfortable with the planes being here, or the boats that are said to be floating around the med. I guess our proximity puts us in a certain position that cannot be controlled. If only malta could float.

But in relation to my post, I was really hurt to see comments by Maltese citizens... it made me feel ashamed to be Maltese.

@ Maltese Falcons:

"If you want to bring home what is going through the Libyan soldiers mind at the moment, soldiers have been burned for allegedly refusing to shoot protesters."

All the more reason to defect and head to Malta, instead of (illegally) bombing civilians. Do you think it was an easy choice to make for the two pilots? Do you think their families will be forgiven and forgotten if Gaddafi "somehow manages to contain the revolution" as you put it?

The issue I have is how could someone like that take power for such a long period. I have never known a time without Gaddafi, but I do know that this is getting really crazy. It is true that I cannot believe the close mindness of these Maltese people contributing such rubbish, but military aircraft landing in our country does not make me feel comfortable. Reason being that if Gaddafi somehow manages to contain the revolution, he is going to want them back.
